About Avandia
For millions of people in the United States, Avandia represented a hope fulfilled. Released by GlaxoSmithKline in 1999 with the promise of treating Type 2 diabetes, the drug was originally met with a wave of enthusiasm that crested in 2006, when $2.5 billion-worth of the drug was sold.
Unfortunately, the drug has been associated with a number of serious health risks, ranging from heart disease and strokes to bone fractures and eye damage. If you are one of the thousands of people who have been prescribed Avandia and you have suffered from health problems as a result, you deserve compensation. About the Drug
Avandia (also known by its medical name, rosiglitazone) was introduced in 1999 and was meant to be a safer alternative to then-common diabetes-control drugs. Generally, it was prescribed to patients along with exercise and dietary programs, as well as in association with drug regimens. Early results were encouraging.
GlaxoSmithKline has sold the drug either as a stand-alone treatment, or in concordance with Avandamet and Avandaryl. In addition to its marketed benefits to diabetics, studies suggested that the drug might also be beneficial in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and malaria.
Unfortunately, many experts believe that Avandia may be directly responsible for a number of health concerns, including:
- Weight gain
- Liver problems
- Anemia
- High cholesterol
- Heart disease
- Stroke
If you or someone you love has been seriously injured as the result of taking Avandia, serious litigation may be the best way to secure the financial compensation that you deserve.
